Epping Forest is one of the man attractions of Loughton. Epping Forest is of national and international conservation importance and home to over 50,000 ancient pollard trees and 100 lakes and ponds. The forest is free to visit and is open 365 days of the year. When Queen Victoria visited Chingford on 6 May 1882 she declared “It gives me the greatest satisfaction to dedicate this beautiful forest to the use and enjoyment of my people for all time” and it thus became “The People’s Forest”. The City of London Corporation still manages Epping Forest in strict conformity with the Epping Forest Act.

There are many large supermarkets, Marks and Spencer (adjacent to our offices), Sainsburys, Morrisons, and Lidl. When it comes to Restaurants, Loughton High Road caters for the masses, with restaurants serving Turkish, Italian, Greek, and English favourites like Fish and Chips and Pie and Mash. Tom, Dick, and Harrys is a lovely restaurant, frequented by residents and famous faces, which serves a range of different cuisines, also being the stomping ground to ‘Gods Own Pizza’. There is an impressive range of retailers on Loughton High Road, including charity shops, fashion boutiques, and beauty bars. Loughton is home to the East 15 Acting School. East 15 grew from the work of Joan Littlewoods, famed Theatre Workshop in Stratford. As of 2020, Essex University, where East 15 is located, has been ranked No. 1 UK university for studying drama and dance in the Guardian’s University Guide. Loughton also has its own music academy the ‘Loughton Music Academy’ founded in 2001 to cope with the growing demand for music in the area. Performances are with full orchestral participation. The ‘Community Music Initiative’ or CMI is a charitable project led by the LMA which provides music lessons for schools in the area who do not benefit from musical facilities.
Travel
Loughton is situated just a short drive from the start of the M25 in Waltham Abbey. The M11 starts in South Woodford in northeast London, meeting the M25 Motorway at junction 6.
Stansted airport is a short drive via the M11 with Luton airport is also relatively close, being approximately a hour away with Gatwick approximately an hour and 20 minute drive.
