Epping Forest

Epping Forest is one of the man attractions of Chingford. Epping Forest is of national and international conservation importance and home to over 50,000 ancient pollard trees and 100 lakes and ponds. The forest is free to visit and is open 365 days of the year. When Queen Victoria visited Chingford on 6 May 1882 she declared “It gives me the greatest satisfaction to dedicate this beautiful forest to the use and enjoyment of my people for all time” and it thus became “The People’s Forest”. The City of London Corporation still manages Epping Forest in strict conformity with the Epping Forest Act.
